MICHELLE LAINE Redefining sleek silhouettes, and apocalyptic minimalism through contrasting textures & unconventional materials, forms the basis of Michelle Laine's designs. Embodying individual self expression through fashion, Laine focuses on atelier style collections. Every piece is hand crafted and one-of-a-kind, smearing the lines between fashion and art. A California Native, and self taught designer, Laine unknowingly discovered her passion for design at the early age of seven when she began creating hand-sewn dress-up clothes for herself. Laine's professional design career officially began in 2007 in Los Angeles, where she designed her first couture women's wear collection under her self-titled label “Michelle Laine,” which was exclusively carried by Curve Boutique. Today Laine's designs remain a staple at Curve, as well as a hand full of other select tastemaker boutiques across the United States and Europe. Laine's approach remains faithful to her un-traditional background in design, re-writing the rules of classic shapes, and formulating her own design constitution in un-explored territory. During summer of 2010 Laine added silver smithing to her repertoire in order to expand upon her jewelry collection. True to form, her jewelry is overstated and deconstructed. Laine primarily focuses on necklaces and bracelets made with raw oversized mineral specimens. The inspiration for Laine's jewelry is drawn from nature and industrial machinery, juxtaposing the inherent ornate delicacy of stonesetting, with an uncouth crudeness that is characteristic of mechanical components. In addition to designing clothing and jewelry collections for her eponymous womens wear label, Laine is a visionary creator of conceptual costumes for films and music videos.
